This monument to those who made the journey from Ireland, and did not survive, is on the eastern side of the St. Andrews penninsula facing Hospital Island. It is just outside the center of the town of St. Andrews. The base of the monument reads ....... 'In memory of those men women and children who died of hunger and disease while fleeing the potato famine in Ireland and lie buried on Hospital Island lovingly remembered by their descendants who persevered and helped build this great nation.'
